Description
Sweffling Lodge is a house that underwent early 19th century remodelling of an earlier structure. It features a white brick facade and a slated roof, standing two storeys high with a three-bay facade that includes pilastered quoins. The inset sash windows have glazing bars, moulded architraves, and slightly cambered stucco arches. The central entrance boasts a four-panel door with a rectangular fanlight that has coloured leaded glass, along with a portico supported by fluted columns and pilasters. The left side of the building has a partly plastered return front with some 18th century square-leaded casement windows, which may have been reused. This house was originally a mill house, and remnants of two post windmills can still be seen in the field to the north, although they are not of special interest.
