Description
Moat Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the late 16th century, with a later extension from the 17th century. The building has two storeys and an attic in part. It is constructed from timber framing and plaster, faced with colour-washed brick, and has a clay pantile roof. There is an end chimney stack on the right, integrated within the frame, and a lower-level extension beyond it. The farmhouse features various 20th-century cross windows. The entrance door has six sunk panels, with the top two being glazed. Inside, the current partitions and the stair's location do not align with the bay divisions of the frame. On the left side of the entry, one ground floor room showcases an exposed ceiling with heavy, closely set flat joists and a main beam that has a 3.5-inch chamfer and pyramid stops. The upper ceilings in the older section of the house are original and also feature flat-set joists. The roof is structured in short bays, with two rows of butt purlins, cambered collars, and a deep, narrow ridge piece. The moat that once surrounded the farmhouse has been completely filled in since the last war.
