Description
Great Common Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the late 16th century, with later alterations and additions. It has two storeys in the main range and one and a half storeys in the rear extension. The main range is timber-framed and rendered, featuring an original red brick gable end with a chimney stack on the north side, and a later red brick gable and chimney stack on the south side. The mid-19th century extension at the back is constructed of red brick, and the roofs are covered with pantiles.
The front of the farmhouse includes three early 19th century casement windows and a central six-panelled door that is topped with a triangular pediment, a broken entablature, and large shaped supporting brackets. The original layout was that of a two-cell end-chimney house. Inside, only some large chamfered main beams are visible, as most of the interior has been altered in the Victorian period, although the timber frame appears to be intact. At the time of the survey, only the 19th century extension was fully occupied, while the rest of the building was becoming derelict.
