Description

Manor Farmhouse is a former farmhouse dating from the early 17th century. It is located on Manor Farm Road in Ilketshall St. John. The original timber-frame structure was later encased in 19th-century red brick, and it is now roofed with black glazed pantiles. The house comprises a hall range and a cross-wing, with parts of the building being one and a half storeys, parts two storeys, and an attic space. The windows are mostly 19th and 20th-century casements, with one gabled dormer. The entrance door is of the early 20th century and has a triangular pediment supported on brackets. An internal chimney stack, constructed of Tudor brick, connects the two ranges and is contemporary with them. Some of the original timber framing is visible internally, where main beams are boxed-in but some plain, unchamfered joists remain exposed. One fireplace has a plain timber lintel. The hall range’s wallplate has been cut, and an Edwardian extension has been added to accommodate a staircase. The roof structure is partially visible, showing principal rafters and stepped butt purlins in both ranges.
