Description
The remains of a monastic college are located to the south of Mettingham Castle, within a small moated enclosure inside the main castle moat. The college was transferred to this site in 1382 from its original location at Raveningham in Norfolk, with the move to Mettingham completed by 1393. The site features several substantial sections of flint rubble walls with red brick dressings, some of which retain original window openings. Additionally, the lower part of a square tower is present, featuring lancet window openings. The site is also recorded in the Proceedings of the Suffolk Institute of Archaeology, Vol. 4, pages 77-89, and is designated as a Scheduled Ancient Monument.
