Description
This barn, located 10 meters northeast of Carlton Hall, was built in 1736 and features dark headers on the gable end facing the house. It is constructed of red brick, with some sections displaying a chequer pattern in dark headers, and has a pantiled roof. The barn consists of four bays and includes an integral aisle on the north side. On the south side, the bays flanking the entrance bay have four segmental-arched ventilation openings, each featuring chequerwork with alternate bricks omitted. The westernmost bay, now hidden by a later outbuilding, was treated differently and likely had an intermediate floor. The structure includes pilaster strips between the bays, an intermediate brick band, and a heavy corbel cornice. The gable ends are parapeted with brick bands, and the roof is supported by stepped butt purlins. This barn is notably ornate and was built to replace one that was destroyed by fire in the same year.
