Description
The stabling and coach houses, located 40 metres north of Witnesham Hall, date from the 18th century and were significantly remodeled around 1840 in the Gothick style. The central coach-house is slightly set forward and features a hayloft above. It is constructed of red brick and has a central Flemish gable topped with ball finials. The flank walls are adorned with crenellated parapets, terracotta copings, and corner pilasters also topped with ball finials. On either side of the central structure, there are short set-back lower walls. The roofs are slate-covered. The building includes wooden hood-moulded mullioned windows, and the central upper window is framed by a pediment and flanking brick pilasters, echoing the 17th-century entrance porch of Witnesham Hall. The stable doors are designed with wooden hood-moulds and are framed and boarded with tall arch-headed panels made of applied moulded battening. This structure is included for its group value.
