Description
23 Market Hill is a building dating from 1852, located on the west side of Market Hill. The structure features a 16th or 17th century rear and an 18th century front. It is two stories high, constructed of brick with a colourwashed finish, and has a plinth. The roof is covered with pantiles and has slated eaves courses. A cove cornice runs along the top. The building has four windows, which are sash type set in flush frames. The entrance includes a six-panel door with panelled reveals and shaped brackets supporting a flat hood. There is an early 19th century shop front made of wood with modern glazed bars. Additionally, a range of timber-framed buildings, which are plastered, extends along Theatre Street and features similar early casements and a brick plinth. All listed buildings in Market Hill form a group around The Shire Hall.
