Description

Nos. 75, 76, and 76A on High Street are a pair of shops and a flat, dating from the mid-18th century. The building is constructed of rendered and colourwashed brick, topped with a roof made of black-glazed and red pantiles. It has two storeys and a dormer attic.

No. 75 features a 20th-century plate-glass shop front, while No. 76 has a late 19th-century double shop front with three 1-over-1 sash windows separated by a glazed door, and a hood above. Between the two shops is a six-panelled door with glazed upper panels that leads to No. 76A. The first floor originally had three 6-over-6 sash windows, but the window for No. 75 has been replaced with a late 20th-century top-hung casement. The remaining two windows for No. 76 are mid-18th century with flush exposed boxes.

The building features a dentil eaves cornice below a gabled roof, which has two flat-topped dormers; the southern dormer contains a 3-over-3 sash window. A chimney stack to the south has been rebuilt in the 20th century and is shared with No. 77. The rear of the building includes a two-storey outshut with 20th-century details and a 20th-century dormer built out of No. 75, which has a balcony.

Inside, the ground floor has chamfered bridging beams and wall plates, with those in No. 76 featuring tongue stops. Similar bridging beams are found on the first floor. The roof structure consists of principal rafters and two tiers of butt purlins.
