Description
Orchard Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 16th century, with the dairy section possibly built slightly later. The building was partly re-fronted in the mid-19th century. It features a timber frame with plastering, while the east end is faced with pale yellow brick. The roof is covered with pantiles. Originally, the farmhouse was a single storey with an attic, but it was raised to two storeys during the re-fronting. The layout consists of three cells. Most windows are 19th-century casements, with a two-window range on the brick facade, large pane sashes, and a central doorway that has a four-panel door and a rectangular fanlight. The quoins and entrance bay are slightly set forward, and the eaves have been raised. There are two dormers, one on each slope of the roof, and two internal stacks. Inside, some timber framing is exposed, along with original doors and floorboards. The dairy end includes a cheese loft and a 17th-century wall cupboard with its original door.
