Description
The Brightwell and Foxhall War Memorial is a First World War memorial erected in 1920, located in the churchyard near the Church of St John the Baptist, which is a Grade II* listed building.
The memorial is made of Clipsham stone and features a plain Latin cross with a tapering octagonal shaft, set on a square plinth that has a two-stepped octagonal base. It stands approximately 3.3 meters high.
On the south face of the memorial, the main inscription is carved in incised lettering. It reads: "TO THE GLORIOUS MEMORY OF BRIGHTWELL & FOXHALL MEN 1914–1918" on the plinth, "FAITHFUL UNTO DEATH" on the upper step of the base, and "GRANT THEM ETERNAL REST O LORD" on the lower step of the base. The names and regiments of the seven fallen soldiers are inscribed on the sides of the plinth, with four names listed on the east face and three on the west.
