Description
The barn at White House Farm is a 17th-century structure that was extended in the early 19th century. It features weatherboard cladding over a timber frame, resting on a brick plinth, and has a gabled roof made of corrugated asbestos. The barn has a nine-bay layout with threshing floors located in the second and seventh bays. There are plank double doors on the west side and lean-to midstreys on the east side.
Inside, the original 17th-century section of the barn consists of four bays with mid rails in the wall framing. It has jowled wall posts supporting beams, which include one surviving set of arch braces, while the others have been replaced with 19th-century knee braces. The roof is a collar-truss design featuring a complete set of curved windbraces supporting the clasped purlins. The early 19th-century extension has a lighter framing without mid rails, knee braces on the tie beams, and nailed collars on the trusses. There are also 20th-century sheds and 19th-century outbuildings attached to the barn, but these do not hold special architectural or historic interest.
