Description
Canes Farmhouse is a farmhouse that dates back to the 16th century or earlier, with alterations around 1600. It was later converted into a row of cottages and has a 20th-century extension. The building is timber-framed, rendered, and has a plain tile roof. It consists of three cells and has one and a half to two storeys, with the central cell originally being an open hall that had an inserted floor around 1600. The fenestration is scattered and includes both metal and timber casements. There is a first-floor casement on the left side and two casement dormers. The farmhouse features two boarded doors and one part-glazed door, with one door for each cell. There are brick stacks, one placed axially and another external at the left gable. At the rear, there is an outshut that is weatherboarded and has a tile roof, with metal casements. The original rear wall is said to have scroll patterned pargetting. The interior has limited inspection opportunities, but there are opposing doorways in the rear wall corresponding to each front doorway, with the central door featuring strap hinges. The hall fireplace has a chamfered bressummer, and the stairs are set against the front of the stack. There is no access to the right-hand or upper rooms.
