Description

Angel House, comprising numbers 12 and 14 Egremont Street, is the east wing of a 16th-century timber-framed house with plaster infill. Originally built on an L-shaped plan, the north wing is now part of the Angel Inn and was refaced in the 18th and 19th centuries. The timber framing is exposed on the north and east sides, while the south side is plastered. The building is two storeys high, with the upper storey jettied on exposed joists on the north and east sides. A particularly notable feature at the north-east corner is a massive corner post with detailed carvings depicting the Archangel Michael and a dragon, along with a figure of an angel below. The east and north sides feature small casement windows with lattice leaded lights. The north side retains two original window openings with diamond mullions. The roof is tiled.
