Description

Brickhouse Farmhouse is a 17th-century timber-framed and plastered building constructed over the remains of a large 16th-century red brick structure, incorporating parts of it. Local tradition suggests the earlier building was originally part of a house built by Catherine of Aragon, possibly connected to a Priory. A cross wing at the south-east end features a jettied upper storey, and the roof is tiled. The south-east front retains a 16th-century brick ground storey and includes the remains of an octagonal pier at each end, as well as an entrance doorway with small octagonal piers. Internally, there is a room with exposed timber framing and another with a Tudor plaster ceiling decorated with roses and fleur-de-lis.
