Description
This is a timber-framed barn, likely of the 18th century, with a brick plinth and a roof covered in metal sheeting. The barn is rectangular in plan, featuring a central projecting section to the southwest (a midstrey) and a smaller timber-framed lean-to at the east, likely originally used as a pedestrian entrance. A 20th-century barn addition to the south has not been considered of particular interest.
The roof is steeply hipped and clad in metal sheeting. Pedestrian doorways were added through the external weatherboard cladding in the 19th century.
Inside, the timber frame remains substantially intact, showcasing good carpentry. The wall framing includes the sole plate, oak studs (some replaced), and mid-rails. Wall posts are present, many retaining original arched corner braces to the mid-rails, along with wall plates and tie beams secured with iron straps. The roof structure features clasped purlins and retains four wind braces, collars, and most of the rafters. The brick pamment flooring is exposed. Original wattle and daub panels are visible in the midstrey and internal walls. The midstrey has its own clasped purlin roof and gable wind braces, with largely intact wall frames.
