Description

These are a pair of late 16th and 17th century buildings on North Street. They are two storeys high with attics and cellars, constructed with a timber frame and plaster infill, and have tiled roofs. The upper storey projects, showcasing exposed timberwork. The ground floor is faced with lined and painted stucco and features a flush-frame sash window with only the centre bars remaining, a wooden-cased entrance (at No. 40), and a small shop, formerly a restaurant, also with a wooden case. The first floor has a three-window range of 18th and 19th century sash windows. Numbers 38 to 42 (inclusive) and No. 44 form a group.
