Description
7-9 Hall Street is a timber-framed and plastered house, originally dating to the 17th and 18th centuries. The front facade was refronted in the 1909 using gault brick, which is now colourwashed. Wings extend to the rear. The brickwork features rusticated quoins. The building is two storeys high with a six-window front. The upper sashes of the double-hung windows have glazing bars, and the windows are set in plain reveals with sills on stub brackets. There are two doorways, each with a semi-circular arched head, a keystone, and pilasters. The ground floor incorporates a modern double-fronted shop bay window in the centre and a smaller shop bay at the south end. The roof is tiled and hipped at the north and south ends, with small gablets. A portion of a 16th-century chimney stack remains, featuring an octagonal shaft and a rebuilt square shaft.
