Description

Moat Cottage is a late 17th century house with a 20th century extension. It is a timber-frame structure, now rendered and colourwashed, with a thatched roof and a red brick central ridge stack. The house has a two-unit plan with a gable facing outwards. It is single-storey with an attic, and has a single range of two-light casement windows on the front gable. A door is located to the right. On the right side of the house are small single- and two-light casements and a door, which now serves as the entrance. Similar casements are found on the left side, while a 20th century extension to the rear features a window within its gable.

The interior retains tall panel framing and jowled posts, along with chamfered bridging beams. A central stack provides a fireplace, which has been partially rebuilt on one side. The roof is simple, likely original, incorporating coupled rafters, a single row of purlins, and collars. The house is little altered overall.
