Description
Dunstead House is a fine timber-framed house that originally stood in Kersey but was carefully dismantled and moved to its current location in 1926, where it was re-assembled exactly as it was. The house is built on an L-shaped plan with wings extending to the north-east and south-east, featuring a cross wing at the south-east end. It has two storeys and attics. The main block, which is the south-east wing, was likely a late 15th-century hall house with a floor and fireplace added in the 16th century. The south-west front of the main block has a jettied upper storey with exposed joists, and while the house primarily has plaster infill, there is brick nogging under the jetty on this front. The north-west end of the main block is also jettied on the upper storey with exposed joists and brick nogging on the ground storey. The ground storey has been raised on a brick plinth to give it extra height. Inside, the house features well-crafted moulded ceiling beams and joists, along with three original doorways that have fine carved spandrels.
