Description

Oak Cottage is likely a 17th-century cottage, with alterations in the 18th century and later. It is timber-framed with rendered walls and a painted brick front in Flemish bond. The roof is covered in plain tiles. The cottage is one storey high with an attic, and originally comprised two rooms. A central four-panel door is set within a pilastered doorcase with a dentilled frieze and cornice. To the right is an eight-pane sash window under a segmental arch, and to the left is a six-pane window within a pilastered former shop window, also with a cornice. The right side of the cottage is jettied, probably to provide access to the rear. A half-hipped mansard roof has two flat dormers containing casement windows. A low brick range with a later stack is located at the rear of the building. The interior has not been inspected. The cottage was formerly listed as Premises 22.2.55 on North Side, 65 yards West of the junction with the road to East End.
