Description

Groton Place is a large timber-framed and plastered building with 18th-century external features, likely originating in the 16th or 17th century. The building is shaped as a "H" on its plan, with wings extending to the west on both the north and south sides. It has a slate roof, a parapet, and a wood modillion cornice. The main block has a 1:5:1 window range, while the wings each have one window range, and the south end has three. The windows are primarily 18th-century double-hung sashes with glazing bars. Some older casements with leaded lights are present on the south side. The doorway features a six-panel door, a "Baroque" fanlight, Tuscan plain columns, and an open modillion pediment. Two large square chimney stacks are located on the main block.
