Description
The tomb chest, dating from the early 19th century, is located in the churchyard of the Church of St Mary in East Bergholt. It commemorates John Dunthorne and his son, who share the same name. The tomb is made of ashlar and has a rectangular shape. On the long sides, there are pairs of basket-arched panels with carved spandrels, which are separated by narrow round-arched panels. The roadside panels feature inscriptions. The tomb is topped with a cornice and a domed cover. It is believed to have been erected by John Dunthorne, possibly with the help of his friend John Constable, in memory of his son.
