Description
This is a house, now divided into two dwellings, located on Stoke Road in Nayland with Wissington. The core of the building dates to the early 15th century, with alterations made in the 16th, 18th, and 20th centuries. It is a timber-frame structure, originally a hall-house, with colourwashed and plastered walls and a pantile roof topped by a central ridge stack. The facade is two storeys high and originally had a three-window arrangement. The upper storey has casement windows with glazing bars, while the ground storey has two old leaded casements. A plaster date panel on the front displays the date 1716. A modern wing was added to the rear at the west end during a 20th-century renovation. The interior of No. 11 contains visible timber-frame elements and represents the original hall. No. 13 originally had a first-floor chamber above storage space and retains a fine crown-post roof with ovolo-moulded capitals and bases.
