Description

Barham Cottage is a small house dating to around the early 18th century, or possibly earlier. It is built with a timber frame and clay lump construction, rendered and plastered, and has a steeply pitched roof covered in asbestos tiles with gabled ends. A rendered stack is located at the gable end. The house originally comprised two rooms; the room on the right (south) side was heated by the gable-end stack, while the left room was unheated. Later additions include an outshut at the rear (east) and a porch on the right (south) end.

The west front, which has two windows, features 2-light casement windows with glazing bars, and attic windows are set within raking dormers. The right (south) end has a gabled porch with a plank door and an attic casement above in the gable. The north end has a casement window within the gable, above which is weatherboarding. A weatherboarded outshut extends to the rear (east).

Inside, the wall-plate, tie-beam, and waney ceiling beams are exposed, and the roof structure is ceiled. The fireplace in the south room has been blocked and replaced with a 20th-century fireplace. The house retains plank doors and a straight staircase rising from the left (north) room.
