Description
The Church of the Holy Trinity, formerly known as the Church of All Saints, is a small but interesting church primarily built in the 15th century, located in Boxted. The west tower features stone rusticated quoins and a castellated parapet. Inside, the chancel boasts Jacobean hammer beam roof trusses, a fine octagonal pulpit with a tester, and a parclose screen adorned with balusters, arches, and achievements from the same period. The communion rail wraps around three sides and is supported by twisted balusters.
The church houses several notable monuments, including painted wood effigies on a table tomb and memorials dedicated to members of the Poley family from Boxted Hall, located in the 18th-century northeast chapel. Among these is an alabaster monument erected in 1725 for Sir John Poley, who died in 1638, and Dame Abigail, featuring full-size standing figures set in niched arches and pediments. Additionally, there are two 16th-century pews at the west end of the nave. The church is recognized for its architectural and historical significance.
