Description
The Crown Inn is a historic building originally constructed as a merchant's house in 1495 and has functioned as an inn since at least the mid 17th century. It is a timber-framed structure with a plastered ground floor and exposed framing on the upper storey, which juts out on exposed joists. The building features a cross wing at the north end that was once gabled but is now part of the main roof. It has two storeys and displays a four-window range of 18th-century leaded casements on the upper storey, with modern copies on the ground floor. The central entrance consists of an 8-panel door framed by a moulded architrave and cornice. The roof is tiled and includes a chimney stack with attached shafts at the north end. Inside, the inn showcases exposed timber-framing, moulded ceiling beams, joists, and a crown post roof.
