Description

St James’ Gate is a 17th-century timber-framed and plastered house located on the High Street in Nayland with Wissington, originally facing the churchyard of St James’ Church. The building has a gabled east front, with a jettied upper storey and gable supported by curved brackets. It is two storeys high with attics. The north front features two window bays, with double-hung sash windows containing glazing bars, alongside two modern casements. A 19th-century shop front with widely spaced glazing bars, pilasters, and a cornice is present on the west end. The east end has a single window range, with modern casements on the lower floors and an older leaded casement in the gable. The roof is tiled.
