Description

Old Hall is a former manor house dating from the first half of the 17th century, with later additions. It is built in rendered timber frame with plaintiled (to the front) and pantiled roofs. The building has a regular E-shaped plan, with a northern service wing projecting towards the rear. A 20th-century extension is present on the south side of the rear elevation. The house is two storeys high with an attic. A central, full-height porch features original ovolo and ogee moulded door frames with massive stops. Most of the windows are 20th-century replacements, including ovolo moulded mullion and transom windows with leaded lights, and two-storey rectangular bay windows from the side wings. Some original diamond mullion windows remain at the rear. Shaped eaves sprockets are visible. The main stacks are axial within the side wings, with six octagonal shafts on the north side and two on the south. An original dog-leg staircase is located at the rear of the south wing, featuring tapered balusters. The timber frame incorporates close studding, arch braced roof ties, and ogee and nicked chamfer stops. The roof exhibits collars, staggered butt-purlins, and intermediate ties. The south wing contains fine early 18th-century panelling, featuring Ionic pilasters and a full Corinthian entablature with a pulvinated frieze.
