Description
Church Hill Cottages is a former lobby entrance type farmhouse that has been converted into two cottages. It dates from the late 16th century and features a rendered timber frame with a pantiled roof. The building has two storeys with an attic on the south side of the stack only. The windows are of varied 18th-century design, with metal casements and horizontal glazing bars. There are two planked doors, one of which has a fielded centre panel and is likely original but has been repositioned. A blocked doorway is located opposite the central axial stack. There is a winding stair on the other side of the stack. The roof is of high quality, featuring clasped purlins with wind bracing to the south of the stack. To the north of the stack, the first floor was formerly open to the roof and includes a fine queen post truss with hollow chamfered arched braces and braces from the posts to the collar. There are later extensions to the side and rear of the building.
