Description
The Church of All Saints is a Grade I listed building located on Church Road in Carleton Rode. The fabric dates from the late 13th century, featuring a late 13th-century chancel with two windows that have two trefoil-headed lights and a trefoil above. The east window is a four-light design with intersecting tracery, and the mullions have thin shafts. There is a late 13th-century south doorway with a moulded arch and shafts, along with a double piscina that has trefoiled arches and a quatrefoil above, complete with a hood-mould supported by leaf corbels.
The nave, along with the north and south aisles, includes a clerestory and predominantly Perpendicular windows, although the late 13th-century south aisle east window, north aisle west window, and north door are exceptions. The church features four-bay north and south arcades and a chancel arch supported by octagonal piers with double-hollow-chamfered arches. A 15th-century south porch is characterized by diagonal buttresses, a rounded arch, and blocked Perpendicular windows. The squat 14th-century west tower, which was repaired in 1717, has angle buttresses, an embattled parapet, and pinnacles.
Inside, there is a 15th-century screen adorned with painted figures, a 13th-century stained glass panel in the south window of the chancel, an octagonal font, and a late 16th-century altar table. The church is constructed of flint rubble with stone dressings, while the chancel is rendered. The roofs are made of tiles, slate, and lead.
