Description
The Old Rectory is an 18th-century house located on Church Road in Carleton Rode. It is constructed of red brick and features a steep slated roof with coped gable ends and brick chimney stacks. The building has two storeys and an attic, with five bays. The windows are sashes with glazing bars set in exposed cases, and they are topped with flat rubbed brick arches. There are three pedimented dormers that contain casements. The doorway is positioned to the right of centre within a round-headed recess, featuring a semi-circular fanlight and a fielded panel door. To the left, there is a one-storey canted bay with sashes and a parapet. The building has a brick string course and moulded brick eaves.
On the east end, there is a large early 19th-century one-storey wing that has two bays and large sashes with glazing bars. At the rear, there is a timber-frame wing dating from the 16th or 17th century, which is plastered and has a black glazed pantile roof, a central brick chimney stack, sashes, and modern casements, along with an early 19th-century brick extension.
