Description
East Carleton War Memorial is a First World War memorial built in 1920, situated on the roadside at the junction of Intwood Lane and Catbridge Lane.
The memorial features a Blomfield Cross of Sacrifice, which is an octagonal stone Latin cross with an inverted sword carved in relief on its front. The shaft of the cross has a moulded foot and rises from a two-tiered octagonal plinth that sits on a single-stepped base.
On the front face of the plinth, there is an inscription that reads: ERECTED BY THE/ PARISHIONERS OF/ EAST CARLETON/ IN THANKFULNESS/ FOR THEIR DELIVERANCE/ AND IN MEMORY OF/ ALL WHO SERVED AND/ OF THOSE WHO DIED/ FOR THEIR COUNTRY/ IN THE/ GREAT WAR 1914 - 1918.
