Description
The Church of St Michael is a Grade I listed building located on Church Road in Aslacton. It features a round tower from the 11th century, which has two-light bell-openings with triangular heads and a central column, along with a later embattled parapet. The core of the nave and chancel also dates back to the 11th century and shows traces of long-and-short work on the northeast side of the chancel. The south aisle and south porch are in the Perpendicular style, featuring flushwork panelling, traceried spandrels, and a niche above the entrance. There is a two-light clerestory.
Inside, the church has a Perpendicular three-bay south arcade and a chancel arch supported by octagonal piers with double-hollow-chamfered arches. The tower arch has single imposts. A 15th-century octagonal font with a shield on each side is present, as well as a pulpit lectern that is probably of Flemish origin from the 16th century. The building is constructed of flint rubble with stone dressings, topped with lead and tiled roofs.
