Description
Nos 17, 17A, and 18 on Market Place are 17th-century buildings featuring two stories and an attic. They are constructed of stucco with pantile roofs. Nos 17A and 17 have two flush frame sash windows on the first floor, which include glazing bars, and are topped with a cove eaves cornice. The pantiles have been renewed, and there is a square dormer above. The shop front has a wooden case, and No 17 has a separate entrance to the upper premises, which includes a patterned rectangular fanlight. The shop front features pilasters. No 18 has gable ends on the east and west sides, with overhanging first floors that contain a casement window and a smaller window in the gable. The ground floor displays a window above two segmental arched basement openings. The west front, facing Market Hill, has a narrow ground floor display window, a flush frame door, and a small projecting lean-to on the right with a small window in a narrow link above. Nos 17, 17A, and 18 are part of a group with Nos 1A, 1B, and 1C Market Hill.
