Description
Manor Farmhouse is a building that likely dates from the late 16th century. It features a combination of stuccoed timber-framing, clay lump, and brick, with a brick and flint base. The farmhouse has a steep thatched roof with gabled ends and stands two storeys tall with an attic, which includes windows in the gable ends. There are four widely spaced casement windows, varying in size from two to four lights, some of which retain original wooden mullions and leaded panes. A wide doorway on the right has chamfered jambs, and there is a brick chimney stack.
To the right of the main structure is an 18th-century wing that has a lower, low-pitched pantile roof, two storeys, and one window with casements. Inside, there is a screen passage that contains an original 16th-century screen with faint remnants of a painted armorial device. The ground floor room at the east end has two small fragments of wall paintings on plaster panels between timber studding, depicting two female figures in crinolines, one of which is very faint. The upper rooms feature panelled partitions, and there is a wooden newel stair and a central brick chimney. The farmhouse has several original open fireplaces, one of which has a fluted brick arch, as well as several late Georgian fire grates. This building is a notable example of a small yeoman's house.
