Description
This barn, located approximately 100 meters northeast of The Grange, dates back to the 16th century and has undergone later remodelling. It features red brick walls and an east gable, topped with a half-hipped thatched roof. The north and south walls have 20th-century square-headed double sliding doors, while there is a large 20th-century door opening in the east gable.
Inside, the barn consists of five structural bays with aisle posts that have jowled tops, supporting arch-braced tie beams and longitudinal aisle plates. There are reverse arch braces between the aisle posts and the plate. Short outshut-ties with straight braces to the posts likely represent the remains of passing braces from the earlier external walls. Some aisle posts are still on sole plates, which are now embedded in the concrete floor. The clasped purlin roof features reverse-arch braces to the principal rafters, indicating that the barn originally extended further to the east.
