Description

Pheasantry Cottage, dating to circa 1840, was originally a garden house associated with Starston Place, which has since been demolished. It was designed by Samuel Taylor. The cottage is constructed of plastered clay lump on a brick plinth, with a tiled roof featuring gabled ends with shaped barge boards. It is a single-story building. The north end has a corner pilaster and a very small quatrefoil window set into the gable. A gabled porch with ornate pierced barge boards, topped with a finial, fronts the north end, featuring a doorway with a four-centred arch. Narrow single-light windows are located on either side of the porch. The south side has a large, canted bay window with casements containing glazing bars, alongside a modern French window. A modern, single-story addition with a flat roof extends from the west end. A brick chimney stack with a single shaft and chamfered angles is located on the north side.
