Description
Orchard Farmhouse is a 17th-century farmhouse located on Hales Beccles Road. It is constructed of red brick, with some areas rendered and colourwashed, and features a steeply pitched pantile roof. The building has two storeys and attics, with a 1½ storey wing to the west, creating an L-shaped plan. The main range runs north-south and has a shaped north gable that includes an internal chimney stack. The windows have been significantly altered, with 20th-century wood and metal casements, and there are blocked window openings in the north gable as well as a blocked segmental-headed attic window in the south gable. To the south-east, there is a large external chimney stack with weathered offsets and a pantiled link to the main roof, although the top of the stack has been rebuilt. The 1½ storey wing at the north-west corner features a gabled dormer with a 3-light leaded casement on the south side, and a ground floor 3-light casement with a segmental head. The north side of the wing has 20th-century casements, and there is a small axial chimney stack.
