Description

Coll's Farmhouse is an early 18th-century timber-framed and brick house, originally rendered and colourwashed. It was formerly a farmhouse and is located on the west side of Silfield Road in Silfield. Originally of lobby-entrance plan, it was altered in the 19th century. The house is two storeys high and comprises four bays. A 20th-century gabled porch sits to the left of centre. The ground floor has one 3-light and one 2-light 19th-century casement window to the left of the porch, and another 2-light casement to the right. The first floor has four 2-light 19th-century casements. The roof has pantiles, black glazed to the front, and a coved eave with timber brackets. A square stack over the porch to the left has four panelled flues. A two-storey gabled addition, with 20th-century casements, extends to the rear, along with a stack on the rear roof slope. The interior features chamfered bridging beams on the ground floor. An inserted staircase now occupies the space where a stack once stood. The roof structure consists of principals and taper-tenoned butt purlins, with surviving windbraces on each side and boarding at collar level.
