Description
Peel Farmhouse is a 17th century timber-frame cottage located on the south side of The Street in Ashwellthorpe. The building is plastered and features fragmentary remains of pargetting on the front. It has a steep pantile roof with gabled ends, and the north end is faced in brick with a stepped gable and a moulded brick string course. The cottage is one storey with an attic, and the east front includes two modern dormers, a small modern bay window on the right, and a modern timber frame porch. There is an off-centre brick chimney stack. Attached to the south end is an 18th century one storey wing, also plastered with a pantile roof. At the rear, there is an early 19th century painted brick wing. It is noted that the local clockmaker Huggin of Ashwellthorpe is reputed to have lived here.
