Description

Norwich Lodge is a lodge cottage for Ketteringham Hall, built around 1840 for Sir John Boileau. It is constructed of flint with stone dressings and has a plain tile roof. Designed in the Gothick style, the building is T-shaped and has one and a half storeys. The right side features two cells deep, while the left side has a single cell wing with a porch at the angle. The gable parapets are adorned with stone kneelers that have sculptured oak leaves and the letter B.

To the right, there is a single bay range with a central axial stack made of gault brick, topped with a decorative brick cornice. The front gable end has an octagonal stone finial. The ground floor includes a canted bay window with a stone roof, featuring five stone cusp-headed lights with panel tracery and mullions. The first floor has a similar two-light opening.

A door is located on the left return within the gabled porch, which has a four-centred stone arch above it, displaying the Boileau arms and crest in stone, along with a figure kneeler and a single Gothick light to the left return. The single bay wing on the left has an external gable end stack, with the ground floor featuring two lights that match the main front gable. The right return of the two-cell range has a central plaque with a shield inscribed with the initials IPB (John Peter Boileau). The Gothick openings include a single light to the right and two lights to the left. There are 20th-century additions to the west.
