Description
No. 74 Upper St Giles Street is a building that dates back to the 16th century, with a later 16th century or early 18th century rear section and 19th century alterations and additions. The ground floor is rendered and features a plinth and quoins, while the first floor is timber-framed. The rear range is constructed of flint rubble, and the building has pantile roofs with a T-shaped plan. It stands two storeys high and was originally jettied at the first floor. The façade includes three widely spaced first floor windows and a right-hand off-centre door that is framed by attached Tuscan columns within a rusticated surround and pediment, accessed by three steps. There is a yard entry on the extreme left side. The windows are sash style with applied pseudo timber-framing, and a box cornice is present. The roof features three gabled dormers with casement windows and bargeboards. Inside, there is an early 18th century staircase and late 18th century panelling in several rooms.
