Description

Ivory House is a former house, now an Adult Education Centre, built in 1771 by Thomas Ivory. The building is constructed of red brick with a black pantile roof and extends over three storeys, arranged in five bays. The central doorway features a semi-circular fanlight with radial glazing bars, rusticated jambs, and a raised and moulded arch. Sash windows with glazing bars are present throughout, each with rubbed brick flat arches; the ground floor windows are situated within semi-circular arched recessed panels. A bracket cornice sits beneath a parapet, which is finished with ball finials at each end. The roof is composed of two spans. Wrought iron railings are present internally, along with a segmental plaster vault to the hall, with semi-circular ends to the hall.
