Description
The former Church of St. Saviour is a Grade I listed building located on Magdalen Street. Originally a parish church, it is now a redundant structure repurposed as a squash club. The church dates from the 14th and 15th centuries, with some reworking in the 19th century. It is constructed of flint with brick and stone dressings and features a west tower, nave, and chancel, along with a south porch and a 19th-century north vestry.
The short tower is supported by two stories of diagonal buttressing and has a plain west door surround, a two-light window, and a square sound-hole with a clock face above the door. The stone crenellated parapet adds to its character. The nave consists of three bays with three-light Perpendicular windows. The single-storey porch has an outer door with triple-order mouldings and a two-centre arch that features badly worn spandrels. The porch also has a kneelered gable and diagonal buttressing. The two-bay chancel includes 19th-century Decorated windows and has a boarded scissor-brace roof.
