Description
Elmham House, located at Nos 8 and 9 in Little Walsingham's Market Place, is a notable 18th-century red brick house. It features a black-glazed pantile roof with coped gable ends, a parapet, and a modillion cornice, rising to three storeys. The façade is arranged in a 1:3:1 bay pattern, with the central three bays projecting slightly. The windows are sash style with glazing bars and flat rubbed brick arches, and there is a moulded string at the first-floor level. The central doorway is particularly impressive, featuring wide pilasters, an entablature with a pediment, fielded panel reveals, and a fielded panel door. To the right (north) is a red brick wing from the 18th century, also with a black-glazed pantile roof and gabled ends, consisting of two storeys and three sash windows with glazing bars. The ground floor windows are set in segmental-headed openings, and there is a panelled door on the right side. Inside, the entrance hall is panelled and has a cornice, leading to a round-headed arch that opens to the staircase, which features turned balusters, a moulded rail, and turned newels, along with panelled ground floor rooms.
