Description
The barn at Hall Farm, located approximately 35 meters west of Baconsthorpe Hall, dates back to the 16th century. Originally built as a barn, it has been adapted over time, with the first to fourth sections now serving as a cattle shed and the fifth and sixth sections converted into a milking parlour. The structure features stone-dressed flint and pantiles, with a low-pitched roof installed around 1965 to replace the original steeply pitched roof.
The east front showcases uncoursed galletted whole iron-stained and knapped flint, with a moulded stone cap at the plinth. There are two ashlar-dressed stepped buttresses located between the first and second sections and between the third and fourth sections. Ventilation slits are present in the first, third, and sixth sections. The barn has undergone changes to its openings, including a small door with brick jambs and a stone segmental head in the second section, a large opening that has been blocked in coursed whole flint in the fourth section, a shuttered left opening in the fifth section, and a 20th-century door in the sixth section.
The west front is partially hidden by a covered yard built around 1976 and features coursed flint with a large stone-dressed opening in the second section, accompanied by a brick buttress on the right and remnants of another brick buttress on the left. Inside, the barn has coursed flint with thin brick dressings around the doors and slits, a blocked opening in the fourth section, and a concrete floor laid around 1965. A shaped kneeler is present at the right gable, and there is a lean-to structure at the left gable made of rendered flint. A partition separates the fourth and fifth sections.
