Description

No 43 on The Street is a house dating from the late 16th century or early 17th century. It features walls made of flint with brick dressings and a roof covered in black pantiles. The building is two stories high and has a single pile layout, with a lobby entrance on the east side and three bays. There is an extension on the west side.

The house has a moulded brick plinth and two bay windows on the ground floor that were added around 1900. The upper floor has two sash windows with plate glass and margin light glazing bars, framed by brick quoined surrounds. The east gable has end quoins with kneelers and a brick parapet. A 19th-century brick porch with gables and barge boards is present, along with a filled-in rectangular window from the 17th century above the porch.

There is a central stack, and the west extension matches the proportions of the original house. The ground floor has a sash window with glazing bars, and the first floor has a sash window with margin light glazing bars. The door is part glazed with margin lights. There are two filled-in rectangular windows from the 17th century on the first floor, along with kneelers, a brick plinth, and an end stack. The eaves feature courses of gault brick and a wooden modillion cornice from around 1800 runs along the entire facade. At the rear, there is a two-story outshut that extends almost the entire length of the house.
