Description

No. 21 North Street is a cottage that dates back to the 16th century and has undergone later alterations. The walls are constructed of flint with brick dressings, and the roof is covered with red pantiles. On the ground floor, there are three casement windows with glazing bars set under arches, one of which is in a rectangular earlier frame. The door is from the 20th century. The first floor features four 2-light casement windows with glazing bars, also from the 20th century, set in earlier openings. The building has brick end quoins and an eaves band. There is an off-centre lobby stack and a 20th-century end stack to the west. The east gable is made of knapped flint with a brick plinth and quoins, and it has a filled-in rectangular mullion window from the 17th century or earlier, along with a smaller window at the rear. A datestone from 1595 is visible in the cut-down gable, which is a significant feature of the building.
