Description

This is an 18th-century cottage located on the south side of High Street in Wighton. Originally a pair of cottages, it is constructed of flint with red brick dressings, and has a red pantile roof. The main part of the cottage is three bays wide, with a single storey and an attic. It features two 19th-century cast iron casement windows with glazing bars, set within 20th-century arched openings and brick surrounds. A two-panelled door, with central and top lights glazed, sits beneath a rubbed brick cambered arch with a dressed surround. A flanking doorway has been filled in. An eaves cornice runs along the roofline. The attic is accessed via a single, off-centre goblet dormer window with a 2-light cast iron casement and glazing bars, along with two 20th-century flat-roofed dormers. The north-west gable is coped with a cement render, while the south-west gable is coped with tiles. A two-bay, single-storey extension at the south-west end is of flint construction with a pantiled roof, incorporating a 19th-century iron-framed fixed window with glazing bars under a rubbed brick cambered arch, and a two-panelled door with glazed central and top lights. The north-west gable facing the road presents a flint wall and a brick gable. The building is included on the list for its contribution to the group value of the surrounding buildings.
